#BestOfThe2000s: DonTrell Moore

@UNMLoboFB on Twitter

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — He is arguably one of the greatest Lobos in the history of the program, a native of Roswell who broke school and conference records and a guy that ever single opposing coach had to gameplan for.  Now he is officially a member of the #BestOfThe2000s team, the first of two running backs as DonTrell Moore dominated the voting, becoming the 13th member of the 30-man team.

Moore was so far ahead in his poll that voters were more concerned with advancing others on the ballot to the next round.  Late in the voting Moore was at a whopping 81%.  Voting is underway for the second running position between Jarrod Baxter, Kasey Carrier, Rodney Ferguson and Jhurell Pressley.  That vote ends at noon on Friday.

The series is a way to engage Lobo fans with the current situation regarding the COVID-19 pandemic.

Moore was a dominant force from 2002-05, writing and rewriting records at UNM and with the Mountain West.  Moore is the only Lobo to rush for 1,000 yards in each of his four seasons, and his totals as a freshman, sophomore and senior as still class records.  He had a career-high 242 yards rushing against Colorado State in 2003, fourth-most in Lobo history.  His single-season rushing totals rank second, third, eighth and 14th in single-season Lobo history.  He is UNM’s all-time record holder in career rushing yards (4,973), career attempts (1,028), career touchdowns (51), and single-season touchdowns (19).

DonTrell is one of five Lobos to ever score five touchdowns in a game, scoring five against Wyoming in 2002.  His 126 points in 2003 is the Lobo single-season record, and his 356 points is UNM’s career record.  He is second all-time in all=purpose yardage at UNM with 5,947 yards and his 1,669 all-purpose yards in 2005 and his 1,599 yards in 2003 are the top two single-season marks in school history and his 5,830 all-purpose career yards is the all-time UNM record as well.

Moore was a two-time captain, serving in 2004 and 2005.  He is a four-time Mountain West Player of the Week and a Second Team All-America in 2003.  In 2002 he was the Mountain West’s Freshman of the Year and in 2005 he was the Mountain West Offensive Player of the Year.  He was a four-time First Team All-Mountain West selection, and he played in the 2006 East-West Shrine Game.  He also was a four-time team MVP.
