Lobo Rewind Debuts April 18 with 2007 NM Bowl Win
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — It was a win 46 years in the making, and now Lobo fans will be able to relive it and get some inside information from two that were there.
Lobo Rewind will debut on Saturday, April 18 at 1 p.m. with a showing of the 2007 New Mexico Bowl, a 23-0 shutout win over the Nevada Wolf Pack. That win was UNM’s first bowl victory in 46 years, and fans can watch a 90-minute re-airing on Saturday via UNM’s Facebook and YouTube channels. However, it’s not just the game, as UNM head coach Danny Gonzales will be live on the broadcast with current defensive coordinator and then-head coach Rocky Long. Both coaches will talk about the game during the broadcast, breaking down the big plays and giving fans an inside peek into the win.
With no highly anticipated Spring Game this year, Lobo Rewind is bringing this game out for fans to enjoy and get their football fix. Backyard social distancing tailgates prior to the game will complete the game day atmosphere as fans enjoy the Lobo victory.
And what a win it was. UNM shutout Nevada and quarterback Colin Kaepernick, the first shutout suffered by Nevada in 27 years. The Wolf Pack entered the game with a 330-game scoring streak, the longest in the FBS, but it had no answered for Rocky Long’s 3-3-5 defense.
Gonzales was UNM’s special teams coach in 2007, and UNM’s All-American kicker John Sullivan hit a still-standing New Mexico Bowl record 53-yard field goal, one of his 29 field goals that season, a Lobo single-season record.
Fans will be able to submit questions to both coaches live via Facebook during the broadcast. Lobo fans, get ready to tailgate on Saturday, April 18 and post pictures and tag @UNMLobos and @UNMLoboFB because it’s Lobo Game Day, Lobo Rewind-style with the 2007 New Mexico Bowl!
