ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— Following a dominant performance against Arkansas-Pine Bluff, LaTascya Duff has been named the Mountain West Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday.
The junior guard earned the honor after going a nearly perfect 10-of-11 from the floor, including 4-of-5 from three-point range, and 4-of-5 from the free-throw line.
Thursday’s game was the third game this season that the Lobo scored in double figures, nearly matching her combined point production from the first two games of 16 points (at Midwestern State) and 15 points (at Sam Houston State).
Additionally, Duff collected a season-high seven rebounds and recorded three assists in 25 minutes on the court.
The majority of Duff’s points came in the fourth quarter, going 5-of-5 from the floor and 3-of-3 from distance, while adding four points on the free-throw line from five attempts, totaling 17 of her game-high 28 points. In the fourth quarter, Duff nearly matched Arkansas-Pine Bluff’s total point production as the Lobos outscored the Golden Lions 29-20 in the final 10 minutes of play.
From the 8:41 mark when Duff made a layup to a made three at the 5:19 mark, Duff accounted for 12-straight Lobo points, including three-straight three-pointers that pushed the Lobos over the century mark.
Duff’s 28 points are the second-most points scored by a Mountain West player this season, bringing her scoring average to a conference-best 19.7 points per game.
On the season, Duff is averaging 25.3 minutes, 4.0 rebounds per game, 3.0 assists per game and has made 54.8 percent of her shots from the floor, 42.1 percent of her shots from three-point range and 77.3 percent of her free-throw attempts, all while coming off the bench.
Monday’s honor is the second conference award for Duff, who was also named the Mountain West Preseason Newcomer of the Year by the league’s media prior to the start of the season.
With Thursday’s 120-66 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff, the Lobos have concluded non-conference competition and will begin conference play on Dec. 31 at Nevada.
