Men's Basketball Signs Two to NLI

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico men’s basketball program has added a pair of versatile newcomers to the 2021-22 roster this signing period, the Lobos announced this week. UNM has signed Jamel King of Uniontown, Ala. and Nestor Dyachok of Moscow.

Jamel King | 6-8/187 | G/F | Uniontown, Ala.

King joins the Lobos from Uniontown, Ala. after competing for Paul Bryant High School in Tuscaloosa, Ala. prior to attending Bella Vista Prep in Scottsdale, Ariz. At Paul Bryant HS, King averaged 23.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game in his senior season. He followed that performance averaging 13.0 points at Bella Vista.

King is listed as a 3-star recruit ranked in the top 55 in the nation by Rivals.com as a small forward.

Coach Weir on King: “Jamel is a homerun fit for our team. His elite 3-point shooting ability stands out but his incredible length and athleticism make him perfect for us. He is a humble and appreciative young man and we are excited to welcome him into our family.”

King on Why He Chose New Mexico: “I chose UNM because I felt like it was the best choice for me. I love the coaching staff and the fan base. I feel like I can become a better player here.

Nestor Dyachok | 6-8/185 | G/F | Moscow, Russia

Dyochok comes to UNM from Moscow, Russia where he averaged 11.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game for CSKA Moscow Junior Team. Dyachok is set to enter his senior season in January.

Coach Weir on Dyachok: “Nestor’s combination of size and shooting ability is hard to find for any college program. To bring in a student, person and worker of this caliber is a huge boost for our program. We can’t wait for him to get here.”

Dyachok on Why He Chose New Mexico: “UNM is a very good and big program that I would like to be a part of. And the people: I’ve never been in New Mexico, but I already feel how warm people are treating me, and it really makes me want to join this Big Family as soon as possible.”
