ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico men’s golf program has added Texas native Jacob King to the 2021-22 roster, the program announced Thursday. King signed a national letter of intent (NLI) to join the Lobos next fall.

“Having Jacob sign with Lobo Golf is great for our program,” head coach Glen Millican said. “He has proven with his play and performance in the classroom that he is ready to succeed in college golf. In addition, his game is set up well to make the transition from junior golf.”

King comes to the Lobos from Boerne, Texas and Boerne Samuel V. Champion High School where he is a three-time Scholar-Athlete and was named First Team 5A All-State in 2019. King helped his squad to two straight district and regional championships in 2018 and 2019 and also finished fourth individually in the Texas 5A State Championship in 2019.

“Jacob’s ability to control his ball flight combined with his length off the tee gives him advantages coming in as a freshman,” Millican said. “I see him making an impact early on and becoming a leader as an upperclassman. We are excited for him to officially join the Lobos!”

King also helped his team to Texas 5A Team Second Place in 2019 and Texas 5A Team Fourth Place in 2018. In 2020, King averaged a 72.8 stroke average and has competed in a pair of tours including AJGA, where he won a pair of “Longest Drive” competitions, and Texas Legends.

In addition to his prowess on the course, King is also heavily involved in community service with Adopt-A-Highway and Hill Country Daily Bread, along with volunteering at a retirement home.

“UNM was the perfect fit for me,” King said. “Coach Millican is an outstanding coach and the team is awesome! I’m so excited to be a Lobo and I can’t wait to get started!
