Lobos Gobble Up TV Slots as MW TV Schedule is Released
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Lobo fans will be able to enjoy turkey, dressing and Lobo Football this year as a pair of games have been moved including UNM’s game at Utah State to Thanksgiving evening as the Mountain West has announced the leagues’ television slate for the year. UNM will have seven games broadcast, with six of them on either FS1 or FS2 as a part of the league’s new partnership with Fox.
The Lobos will also have one game on CBS Sports Network. UNM has one game guaranteed on Fox Sports 2, two games on Fox Sports 1 and three other games will be on either of those stations. Many of the game times will be announced 12 days prior to kickoff.
UNM did learn three game times, starting with the season opener at Colorado State, which will kickoff at 7 pm. UNM’s game at Air Force, which was moved to Friday, November 20. That game will kickoff on FS 1 at 7:30 pm. UNM’s lone game on CBS Sports Network is the December 5 home game against Wyoming, and that will kick off at 5 pm.
The Thanksgiving Day game at Utah State will kickoff most likely in the evening window (usually 4 pm or 7:30 pm), and it will be on Fox Sports 1. The Thanksgiving game will be UNM’s 27th Thanksgiving Day game, but the first since November 24, 1938 when UNM beat Colorado State 27-7. It’s UNM’s first Thanksgiving Day road game in 98 years, having last played a road game on that date at New Mexico State in 1922. It’s UNM’s first Thanksgiving Day game outside of the Land of Enchantment since 1910 (that was at Arizona)
Incidentally, UNM was scheduled in 1939 to host Colorado State on Thanksgiving, which was November 30 that year. However, on October 31 President Franklin D. Roosevelt proclaimed that Thanksgiving would move from the last Thursday in November to the fourth Thursday in November, moving Thanksgiving that year to November 23. Overall, UNM is 12-13-1 on Thanksgiving.
UNM’s lone game that was not yet announced for broadcast was UNM’s game at Hawai’i, but that should be announced in the upcoming days.
