COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The New Mexico Lobos will open their season on October 24 at Colorado State in the first of eight games in the 2020 football season as the Mountain West released the entire conference slate of games.
The schedule, which begins on October 24 will feature no bye weeks and the regular season will conclude on December 12 against Fresno State. The Mountain West championship game will feature the top two teams in the standings on December 19. For the 2020 season, there will be no divisional play and the league standings will have all teams in the conference.
While all opening games will take place on October 24, Mountain West national television partners CBS Sports and FOX Sports will now initiate a selection procedure which will include the shifting of several games to Thursdays and Fridays. Additional announcements on television selections and possible date changes will be made in the near future, along with game times.
New Mexico is slated for four homes games at University Stadium, including its home opener on Halloween against San José State. All games are subject to local and state health ordinances and guidelines.
“We will continue to work with our local and state officials to ensure the safety of all and that proper protocols and procedures are in place,” said Director of Athletics Eddie Nuñez. “We feel very good about the stringent and frequent testing procedures mandated by the Mountain West.”
Only one team that was originally on the 2020 conference schedule is not on the new schedule, and that’s Boise State. Instead, UNM is scheduled to host Fresno State in the regular season finale on December 12. The Lobos are also scheduled to host Nevada on November 14 and Wyoming on December 5.
The Lobos road games, along with the opener at Colorado State, will be at Hawai’i on November 7, at Air Force on November 21 and at Utah State on November 28, which is Thanksgiving weekend.
