ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Coming off of a 27-point conference victory down all but one starter on Tuesday, the University of New Mexico men’s basketball team is looking to make it two straight on Saturday with a matchup at Nevada. For the first time, the Lobos will take on former head coaches Steve Alford and Craig Neal just one season after UNM downed the No. 5/6 Wolf Pack in The Pit last January.

UNM (16-5, 5-3 MW) earned its 13th straight home victory on Tuesday while Nevada (12-8, 5-3 MW) is coming off an 86-72 victory over UNLV at home on Wednesday. Nevada is 2-3 in its last five contests including losses to San Diego State, San José State and Utah State, all on the road. Nevada is 8-2 at home while the Lobos are 2-4 on the road.

The Lobos, ranked fifth in the nation in field goal percentage, are led in MW play by four active players in double figures, however just two of them played on Tuesday vs. SJSU: senior Corey Manigault (14.4) and redshirt-junior Zane Martin (10.4).

Nevada has three players averaging double digits in league competition including junior Jalen Harris (23.0) and seniors Jazz Johnson (16.8) and Lindsey Drew (10.1).

Below is a look at how the Lobos rank in some of the national stats:

New Mexico leads the series with the Wolf Pack 7-6 overall but is just 1-5 in the teams’ last six meetings. Nevada holds the advantage in Reno, 4-3, including in the squads’ last matchup when Nevada was ranked No. 6/6 in the nation. The Wolf Pack earned a 91-62 victory on Feb. 2, 2019 in Reno, avenging the Lobos’ 85-58 home win that shattered then No. 5/6 Nevada’s undefeated season on Jan. 5, 2019.
