Lobos fall at home to UNLV

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The University of New Mexico women’s basketball team was defeated at home by visiting UNLV on Saturday afternoon by a score of 68-51.
 
Saturday’s game between the Lobos (11-9, 2-5 MW) and the Rebels (9-9, 5-2 MW) was tightly-contested throughout much of the first quarter. Through the first nine minutes of action in the first period, the largest lead for either team was just four points. Additionally, there were four lead changes and four tie scores.
 
With the score tied at 12-all at the 1:52 mark, Antonia Anderson made a layup to give the Lobos a 14-12 lead. Over the remainder of the quarter, however, the Rebels went on a 9-0 run and took a 21-14 lead into the second quarter.
 
Early in the second, the Lobos went on a mini 4-0 run to cut the lead down to three points, 21-18, with 7:34 left on the clock. Another lengthy scoring run by the Rebels followed and swelled the lead to double digits midway through the period. By the end of the quarter and half, the Rebels held an 18-point lead.
 
In the second half, the Lobos would battle hard and pulled as close as 11 points just under halfway through the third quarter. That would be as close as the Lobos would get in the game however as the Rebels maintained a comfortable lead throughout the remainder of play.
 
Statistically the Lobos had two players score in double figures with Ahlise Hurst leading the way with 16 points. Jordan Hosey was next in scoring with 11. Aisia Robertson and Azaria Robinson were not far off from double-digits in scoring as they had eight points each. Hosey also added a team-high seven rebounds and five blocks. The five blocks were a season-high for Hosey.
 
The Lobos will now prepare for a road game at San José State this coming Wednesday. The game at San José will be an early matinee start time as tip-off is scheduled for Noon (MT).
