UNM Athletics to Hold Voter Registration Event Tuesday, Sept. 22

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— The University of New Mexico Athletic Department has partnered with the Albuquerque City Clerk’s Office to organize a voter registration drive on Tuesday, Sept. 22 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Pit.

Tuesday is nationally recognized as Voter Registration Day, with the mission to bring attention to the importance of registering to vote and voting in the upcoming General Election. The last day to register to vote in the state of New Mexico is Tuesday, Oct. 6.

To register at the event, enter on the NE entrance by the ticket office and please bring your state of New Mexico issued ID. There will be staff on site to assist and answer questions. If you aren’t able to provide an ID on Tuesday, the poll site will require proof of residency for first time voters.

Those that have registered can now request an absentee ballot online with the last day to request Tuesday, Oct. 20. To request an absentee ballot online, please click here.

In late August, UNM Athletics released a “Your Vote, Your Voice: Lobos Impact the Future” campaign to encourage students, student-athletes, staff, and members of the city, state and nation to be informed and vote.

As part of that campaign, it was important to work in conjunction with the city to provide opportunities and spaces for the community to register, with Tuesday’s registration event being the first step.
