ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — There are plenty of ways to get an affirmation that you are good at something, but when the greatest coach in NFL history does everything he can to hide you from the other 31 NFL teams, well, that’s pretty good.  That’s exactly what happened to Corey Bojorquez after he left UNM to end up the punter for the Buffalo Bills.  He got a different affirmation today as he was voted as the punter to the #BestOfThe2000s team for Lobo Football.  He is the 18th member of the 30-person squad.

Bojorquez topped his replacement Tyson Dyer in the voting, with Zack Rogers and Tyler Gaus rounding out the voting, which has been going on all month on UNM’s Football Twitter account.

The series is a way to engage Lobo fans with the current situation regarding the COVID-19 pandemic.

Bojorquez was a true talent at UNM, a left-footed boomer who nearly has as many 75-yard punts in his career, four, than every other punter in the 120-year history of the Lobo football program, five.  Bojorquez holds a host of Lobo records, and his national TV performance against Colorado State in 2017 was one for the ages.  In that game he punted three times for a school-record 57.7-yard average, including a 78-yard punt.  His net for that game was also a school record of 64.7 yards as well.  He was on the 2017 Ray Guy Semifinalist list, and he was eventually signed as a free agent by New England.

It was there that Bill Belichick tried to hide the talented rookie by never punting him in a preseason game, even though all reports had him as the best punter on the Patriots.  When Belichick tried to sneak him through waivers, Buffalo claimed him and he became the starting punter, and has been for the past two seasons.
