ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The fans have spoken, and Lamar Jordan was voted the top quarterback of the 2000s.  It was the first of Lobo Football’s interactive Twitter poll to determine the fan’s favorite players from the first 20 seasons of the century, the Best of the 2000s.

Lamar Jordan, who played from 2014-17, picked up 48.3% of the vote, topping Kole McKamey (19.6%), Casey Kelly (16.5%) and Donovan Porterie (15.7%).  Overall, 644 votes were cast by Lobo fans, meaning he picked up 311 votes. 

The Best of the 2000s quarterback poll was followed by the start of the linebackers poll, where 13 Lobo linebackers from the past 20 seasons will go to a vote of the fans, with one winner in each of the four votes.  Whichever player finishes second in the vote will carry over ot the next poll, giving everyone a fair shake.  THe series is a way to engage Lobo fans with the current situation regarding the COVID-19 pandemic.
 

Jordan quarterbacked the Lobos for four seasons, from 2014-17, and he led UNM to back-to-back bowl appearances and a win in the 2016 New Mexico Bowl, a 23-20 win over UTSA, UNM’s second bowl victory in 56 seasons.  Jordan finished his career 11th in career rushing with 2,503 yards, the most ever by a Lobo quarterback.  He also finished fifth in career passing efficiency with a 124.9 rating.  His 16 wins as a starting quarterback is tied for third in Lobo history, and his 92-yard touchdown pass to Delane Hart-Johnson is the second-longest in UNM history and the longest in UNM bowl history.

He turned in one of the greatest games in Lobo offensive history, averaging 13.56 yards per play of total offense in a 36-30 win over Wyoming to end the 2014 season.  He totaled 217 yards on just 16 plays in that game.  Overall, Jordan threw for 20 touchdowns and rushed for 17, and his 37 touchdowns responsible for is tied for seventh all-time.
