Hamada and Lersadwattana Card Pair of Eagles on Day 1

TUCSON, Ariz. — The University of New Mexico women’s golf team finished day one of the Arizona Wildcat Invitational hosted by Arizona on Monday at the Sewailo Golf Club. Sophomore Kamie Hamada and freshman Napat “Jenny” Lertsadwattana led the Lobos through the first two rounds with an eagle apiece as two of just seven players to do so. The pair tied for 24th overall in a field of 69 competitors through the first two rounds.

Hamada finished round one two over, 74 and round two with a 75 (+3) while Lertsadwattana finished round one with a score of 78 (+6) before carding a five-stroke improvement in round-two to finish one under, 71.

The pair of Lobos finished the first day of the invitational with a score of 149 (+5) and each registered their eagles during round two. Hamada posted hers on the par-5, hole six while Lertsadwattana carded hers on the par-5, hole eight. The Lobos were joined by No. 10 Arizona as the only two squads to have two members card an eagle on the day.

Freshman Lauren Lehigh was the third Lobo on the leaderboard, finishing rounds one and two with scores of 76 (+4) and 77 (+5), respectively. She finished 43rd overall with a score of 153 (+9). She was followed closely by freshman Chloé Lauer, who tied for 48th finishing +10 on the day with a two-round score of 154, as well as junior Caroline Jansson, who finished +11 with a day-one total of 155. Lauer noted a two-stroke improvement between rounds one and two while Jansson shaved three strokes off of her first-round score.

Freshman Alice Rindestig rounded out the UNM team score finishing with a total of 163 (+19) while junior Serena Chon, competing as an individual, carded a 169 (+25).

As a team, the Lobos finished the first two rounds of the Arizona Wildcat Invitational in 11th place with a score of 606 (+30). Leading after day one is host No. 10 Arizona with a score of 558 (-18) followed by NM State in second (581, +5) and No. 15 Oregon in third (582, +6). The Lobos are 14 strokes behind Long Beach State which sits in fifth with a score of 592 (+16). 

The Lobos will conclude the Arizona Wildcat Invitational on Tuesday with a shotgun start beginning at 8 a.m. MT. Fans can follow the action live via GOLFSTAT.
