Pair of Freshmen Lead Lobos Through Final Round
TUCSON, Ariz. — The University of New Mexico women’s golf team wrapped up the Arizona Wildcat Invitational with a 10th-place finish Tuesday. The Lobos were led by a pair the freshmen, Lauren Lehigh and Napat “Jenny” Lersadwattana who tied for 38th overall with a score of 226 (+10).

Lehigh completed rounds one and two with scores of 76 (+4) and 77 (+5) before carding her lowest score of the competition in round three finishing one over, 73. Lehigh also shot four birdies during round three to contribute her 11 total which marks the fifth most total by a competitor during the invitational.
Lersadwattana finished round one with a 78 (+6) before chopping off seven strokes in round two for a score of 71 (-1) to mark her lowest round-two score of the season. During round two, she also carded her first eagle of the season before shooting a score of 77 (+5) in round three to wrap up the competition.
The pair finished back-to-back with sophomore Kamie Hamada and freshman Chloé Lauer, who was competing as an individual. Hamada and Lauer tied for 43rd overall posting a final total of 227 (+11). Lauer improved in each round on the competition, starting with her 78 (+6) in round one followed by a 76 (+4) in round two and a 73 (+1) in round three, registering a five-stroke improvement between rounds one and three.
Hamada, who led the tournament in overall pars with 40, finished rounds one, two and three with scores of 74 (+2), 75 (+3) and 78 (+6), respectively.
Junior Caroline Jansson also posted a five-stroke improvement between rounds one (79, +7) and three (74, +2) while finishing with a final score of 229 (+13). Jansson also finished with 31 pars over the three rounds, nine behind Hamada as the tournament leader.
Freshman Alice Rindestig rounded out the Lobos’ team score, tying with individual competitor and junior Serena Chon. The pair carded a final score of 244 (+28). Chon registered a nine-stroke improvement between rounds two (84, +12) and three (75, +3).
As a team, the Lobos finished the Arizona Wildcat Invitational in 10th with a score of 908 (+44). UNM’s final score placed the squad five strokes ahead of fellow Mountain West competitor UNLV (913, +49). Host No. 10 Arizona took the top spot finishing with an 846 (-18). No. 15 Oregon and NM State tied for second with a score of 868 (+4).
The Lobos will be back in action on March 27-29 as they head back to Arizona for the Ping / ASU Invitational hosted by Arizona State in Tempe. The contest will serve as the Lobos’ final tuneup before heading off to the Mountain West Championships on April 20-22 in Palm Springs, Calif.
