ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico men’s basketball team, currently tied for second in the Mountain West standings, is set to take its two-win streak on the road to Colorado State on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. matchup with the Rams in Fort Collins on ESPN3.
The Lobos, currently ranked sixth in the nation in field-goal percentage (49.8), enter Wednesday’s contest 15-3, 4-1 MW and are receiving votes in the most recent USA Today Coaches Poll as one of just three league squads to earn mentions by either national poll this season. UNM is 10-1 in its last 11 games, since topping (RV) Wisconsin on Nov. 26, which has recently downed a trio of top-20 squads.
Colorado State is also coming off of a pair of conference wins and is 11-7 on the season, 2-3 in league play.
The Lobos continue to be led by redshirt-senior JaQuan Lyle who averages 17.4 points per game, 20.6 in conference play. Lyle recently reached the 1,000 point career mark and will likely soon be joined by redshirt-junior Zane Martin. Martin needs just 19 points to reach the milestone after racking up 815 points during his two seasons at Towson.
Colorado State is led by freshman Isaiah Stevens who averages 12.7 points per game, 13.4 in conference competition. The Rams also return 2019 First Team All-Mountain West senior Nico Carvacho who is averaging 12.6 points and 10.7 rebounds per game on the season.
