ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico men’s basketball team will resume Mountain West play on Wednesday, Jan. 1 on the road at San José State at 7 p.m. PT / 8 p.m. MT. The contest will mark UNM’s ninth New Year’s Day competition in program history.
The Lobos are 6-2 in games on New Year’s Day and Wednesday’s game will mark just the second time UNM has played its New Year’s Day contest on the road.
UNM (13-2, 2-0 MW) enters the matchup riding an eight-win streak that includes a 2-0 record so far in conference play over Boise State and Wyoming. The Lobos are 3-2 outside of The Pit (10-0 at home) and just three of those contests have been true road matchups. The Lobos are 2-1 in those games.
New Mexico has won its first two MW contests for the last eight seasons but a win over SJSU would make the Lobos 3-0 in conference play. The last time the Lobos started conference play 3-0 was in 2015-16.

The Lobos are led by five players averaging scoring in double figures including redshirt-senior JaQuan Lyle who leads with 16.9 points per game. SJSU has just one player averaging double digits, sophomore Seneca Knight with 12.8 ppg.
