Lobo women's basketball unveils full 2019-20 schedule

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – After winning 24 games in 2018-19 and totaling 49 victories the past two seasons, the University of New Mexico women’s basketball team has already begun preparations for the upcoming 2019-20 season. As part of that preparation, head coach Mike Bradbury has announced the remainder of the 2019-20 schedule after the league schedule and highly-anticipated Cancun Challenge games were released earlier this summer.
 2019-20 UNM Women’s Basketball Schedule

The complete upcoming slate of games feature a total of 12 teams that advanced to postseason play beyond their respective conference tournaments. All but four of those opponents will be a part of the Lobos’ non-conference schedule and highlighted among them are NCAA Tournament participants New Mexico State (11/17/19; 12/16/19), Missouri (11/28/19) and Arizona State (12/14/19).

“I am excited about our schedule this year and specifically our non-conference schedule,” said head coach Mike Bradbury. “It will be very challenging with three Power 5 opponents and eight teams that made a postseason tournament last year.”

“Our trip to Cancun will be highly-competitive with games against Missouri and West Virginia,” added Bradbury. “We are also looking forward to a big road trip to New Mexico State and UTEP. At home, we will host our annual Lobo Invitational around Christmas with three really good teams coming to The Pit and will also play Houston, a team we beat in double overtime last year. Overall, our schedule is exciting and should make for a special year.”

Boise State (12/4/19; 2/22/20) joins that trio of aforementioned NCAA Tournament teams that will be on the Lobos’ overall schedule. Those four teams combined to win 100 games last season. In addition to the NCAA Tournament opponents, the Lobos will face six teams that played in the WNIT in Houston (11/12/19), West Virginia (11/29/19), Providence (12/18/19), Loyola Marymount (12/19/19), Wyoming (12/7/19; 2/8/20) and Fresno State (1/8/20; 2/1/20) as well as a pair of WBI participants in UC Riverside (11/5/19) and Utah State (2/27/20).

Of the 31 scheduled regular season games, 17 of those will be played within the confines of Dreamstyle Arena – The Pit. With the two exhibition games scheduled against Colorado Springs (10/27/19) and Eastern New Mexico (10/30/19) prior to start of the season, Lobo women’s basketball fans will have 19 opportunities to catch the team in action at home.

A few of the marquee home dates to circle on the calendar will be vs. Houston on November 8, Wyoming on December 7, New Mexico State on December 16 and Boise State on February 22. Additionally, the Lobos will once more host their own invitational near the Christmas holiday. This year’s Lobo Invitational will take place over the course of three days beginning on December 18 and will run through December 20. During that invitational, UNM will take on Providence on December 18, Loyola Marymount on December 19 and Ball State on December 20.

The final home game of the regular season for the Lobos is slated for February 24 against Air Force. That game will also serve as Senior Day. Three days after that, the Lobos will conclude their regular season on the road at Utah State for the one-and-only scheduled meeting between the two.

As in years past, the Mountain West Tournament will take place in Las Vegas, Nev. at the Thomas & Mack Center. This year’s women’s basketball tournament will be from March 1 – March 4.
