Round Three Canceled; Lobos Finish Tenth at Husky

BREMERTON, WASH. — The third round of the Husky Invitational hosted by Washington was canceled on Tuesday due to inclement weather in Bremerton, Wash. The first and second round scores will serve as the final results of the tournament. The Lobos finished round two in tenth place and were led by freshman Albert Boneta who finished tied for 19th overall.
 
FINAL RESULTS
 
Boneta had a solid outing in his Lobo debut as he shot a 73 (+1) in round one followed by a 71 (-1) in round two to finish with a final score of 144 (E). The freshman led the squad in par-5 scoring as his average of 4.38 (-5) tied for second in the category.
 
Sophomore Sam Choi finished just one stroke behind as he shot a first-round score of 73 (+1) and a second-round score of 72 (E). Choi led UNM in birdies (9) and finished tied for third in par-5 scoring with an average of 4.50 (-4). His combined score of one over, 145 landed him in a tie for 24th.   
 
Redshirt-junior Ross Sinclair improved his first-round score by six strokes as he shot an even 72 in round two to bring his combined total to a six over, 150, tying him for 54th. Sophomore Ignacio Arcaya followed by two strokes as he shot an eight over, 152. Arcaya led the Lobos in pars as his total of 23 was just four behind the tournament leader.
 
Junior Galven Green led the squad in round one as he shot an even 72, however the junior’s second-round score was voided due to a disqualification.
 
As a team, UNM shot a first-round score of 296 (+8) and a second-round score of 289 (+1) to finish the competition in tenth with a combined total of 585 (+9). The Lobos led the tournament in eagles as both Sinclair and Green carded one in round one while Boneta sealed round two with an eagle on his final hole. The squad performed its best on par-3s as it averaged 3.22 (+8) and it carded 26 birdies on the day.
 
Host Washington finished the tournament in first as it shot a two-round total of 22 under, 554, putting the team eight strokes ahead of second-place Long Beach State which finished 14 under, 562. Nevada finished the day in third with a score of 567 (-9). Washington led the competition in par-3, par-4 and par-5 scoring as it shot averages of 3.00 (E), 3.95 (-5) and 4.53 (-19) in each category, respectively.
 
St. Mary’s redshirt-sophomore Mikey Slesinski had an exciting start to the season as he registered a hole-in-one on his 14th hole of round one, hole #5. 

Freshman Dylan Fritz competed individually on Monday at the Olympic College Invitational hosted by Olympic College in Port Orchard, Wash. The newcomer tied for 20th at the event as he shot duplicate scores of 78 (+6) in rounds one and two to finish with a final score of 156 (+12).
 
The Lobos will be back in action on Friday, Sept. 27 – Saturday, Sept. 28 as they return home to host the annual William H. Tucker Intercollegiate at the UNM Championship Course.
