Women's Golf Heads to Cougar Cup

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico women’s golf team is set to compete in the 2019 WSU Cougar Cup hosted by Washington State on Monday, Sept. 16 through Tuesday Sept.17. UNM comes off of hosting its opening meet of the season, the 41st Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational on Sept. 9-10. This will be the Lobos’ first appearance at the WSU Cougar Cup.
   
The 2019 Cougar Cup will be held at the Palouse Ridge Golf Club in Pullman, Wash., a par-72 course with 6,200 yards of hills and tight fairways.

The Lobos will be up against a field of 14 additional teams including BYU, Cal, Colorado, Colorado State, Denver, Gonzaga, Idaho, Oregon, Oregon State, Pepperdine, Seattle, San Francisco, Washington and Washington State.

The tough lineup includes the 2019 Summit League Champion Denver, 2019 Big Sky Championship Runner-Up Idaho, 2019 WCC Champion Pepperdine and Seattle, which finished tied for first in last season’s WAC Championship before falling to Lobo in-state rival New Mexico State on a tiebreaker. 

Of the squads participating, the Lobos have already faced three this season in their first tournament of 2019-20 including Colorado State, Idaho and Pepperdine.

Pepperdine finished second overall in Albuquerque with a score of nine under, 855 while Idaho finished tied for 14th with Colorado State at 911 (+47) after three rounds. UNM finished ninth overall with a score of 883 (+19).

UNM was led by junior Caroline Jansson and freshman Napat “Jenny” Lertsadwattana in the Lobos’ opening tournament of the season as the pair tied for 14th overall (217, +1) in a field of 86 competitors.

Round one begins with a shotgun start at 9:00 a.m. MT (8:00 a.m. PT) on Monday, Sept. 16 immediately followed by round two. The final round is set to begin on Tuesday, Sept. 17 with a shotgun start at 8:45 a.m. MT (7:45 a.m. PT).
