Jennifer Muñoz signs with Club América Femenil

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Former University of New Mexico standout women’s soccer player Jennifer Muñoz will continue her time on the pitch as she has signed a contract with Club América Femenil. Based out of Mexico City, Mexico, Club América Femenil is one of 19 teams that competes in Liga MX Femenil, the highest division of women’s soccer in Mexico.

“I’m so grateful for everyone that has supported me during my soccer journey; from my family, friends, teammates and coaches,” said Muñoz. “This has been a dream of mine since I was just 5 years old. I am blessed beyond belief and want to make UNM Athletics proud!”

A native of Mission Viejo, Calif., Muñoz, is no stranger to international soccer as she spent the spring of 2015 playing for the Mexican U20 team. After receiving an invite to their camp months after completing her freshman season at UNM, Muñoz earned a spot on the traveling roster and even started matches during the team’s tour of the U.S. Midwest that included exhibition games against Notre Dame and Michigan State.

During her four years at UNM, Muñoz played in 77 games and started 75 while logging over 6,000 minutes. She totaled eight career goals and dished out 10 career assists for 26 career points. In her final season as a Lobo, Muñoz had 15 points thanks to five goals and five assists. Her goals as a senior were second-most on the team and her assists led the Lobos.

The stellar bookend to her collegiate career statistically also garnered Muñoz year-end accolades. The senior captain would be named as an All-Pacific Region Second Team player by the United Soccer Coaches and was an All-Mountain West First Team performer as well.
