Jared Mang garners Google Cloud Academic All-America® honors

AUSTIN, Texas – A day after being drafted in the 18th round by the Detroit Tigers, outgoing University of New Mexico senior baseball player Jared Mang garnered a prestigious academic award as he was named to the 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-America® Second Team as it was announced by CoSIDA on June 6.

For Mang, it is his second Academic All-America® plaudit in his career as he was also a second team honoree as a sophomore in 2017. With his second honor in hand, Mang becomes the fourth Lobo baseball player all-time to be a multiple Academic All-America® recipient. Additionally, Mang is the third Lobo this year to be earn Academic All-America® status joining Simon Spangenberg (men’s soccer) and Andrea Howard (softball).
 
A four-year standout for the Lobos, Mang put the finishing touches on a sensational career at UNM with a productive senior campaign. Overall, he hit .365 (76-for-208) this season with 57 runs scored, 23 doubles, four triples, five home runs and 51 RBIs. He slugged at a clip of .587 and posted an on-base percentage of .441. Mang also swiped 15 bases and did not commit an error defensively.
 
For his career, Mang hit .339 (246-for-726) with 184 runs scored, 53 doubles, eight triples, 25 home runs and 172 RBIs. He also posted a career slugging percentage of .537, an on-base percentage of .424 and had a fielding percentage of .981.
