Jones Named to Google Cloud Academic All-District® Team
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— Steffi Jones of The University of New Mexico women’s track and field team has been named to the 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-District® Women’s Track and Field/ Cross Country Team as selected by CoSIDA.
The award recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances in the athletic realm and in the classroom.
Jones, a junior from Plano, Texas, carries a 4.19 grade-point-average in biochemistry. She was one of 11 selected to the District 7 first team, which is comprised of student-athletes from Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas and Wyoming.
First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third team (if applicable) Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in June.
Jones finished her outdoor season with a season best time of 2:09.43 in the 800-meter at the Mountain West Championships. During the indoor season, Jones ran the seventh-fastest individual time in the 600-meter with a 1:34.97.
Academically, Jones was named to the 2019 UNM All-Academic Team, made up of the top academic performer on each team, as well as a UNM scholar-athlete.
