Sean Carlon Earns Division I All-Region Honors

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Senior Sean Carlon of The University of New Mexico men’s golf team has been named to the Division I PING West All-Region Team by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). The senior is one of just two golfers in the Mountain West to earn the all-region honor among 150 golfers nationally and just 25 to represent the west region.

Carlon earned the honor after a standout season in which he tied for first at the 2019 Mountain West Championship and ranked 115th nationally. Carlon was named to the 2018-19 Mountain West All-Conference Team and was honored as Mountain West Golfer of the Week twice on the season, on Feb. 20 and March 20.

The senior made 11 tournament appearances this season and held a career-best average of 71.57 strokes across his 33 rounds. He posted an outstanding, sixth-place overall performance at the 2019 NCAA Louisville Regional competition and registered his top finish of the season at the Mountain West Championships as he tied for first with teammate Galven Green (203, -13). Green ultimately edged out Carlon for the individual trophy after a three-round playoff.

Of his 11 appearances, Carlon registered two top-5 finishes, four top-10s and eight top 25s. He registered a low-round score of 67 three times on the season at the National Invitational Tournament (N.I.T.), the PING Cougar Classic and the Mountain West Championships.

Carlon and UNLV’s Harry Hall mark the only two Mountain West competitors to earn a spot on the West All-Region Team. Hall is ranked 80th nationally and is tied with Carlon for the first-place spot in the conference rankings.

Overall, Carlon’s senior campaign marked the best of his collegiate career en route to his all-region honor.
