Women’s soccer announces 2019 schedule

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The University of New Mexico women’s soccer team has announced their schedule for the upcoming 2019 season. The defending Mountain West Regular Season Champions currently have seven home dates next fall.

In addition to claiming a share of their third MW Regular Season Championship in program history, the Lobos were one game away from the NCAA Tournament for the second-straight year as they played in the MW Tournament Championship.

This upcoming season, the Lobos will test themselves right out of the gate as their first scheduled game of the year will be a Sunday, August 25 home contest against Texas Tech. Last season, the Lobos and Red Raiders played in Lubbock and it was 2-0 win for Texas Tech. By season’s end, the Red Raiders finished 14-5-3 overall and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Following that home game, the Lobos will embark on a tour of the Pacific Northwest as their next four games will all be played on the road either in the state of Washington or Oregon. The first two of those will be a part of the annual Husky Invitational hosted by the University of Washington. The Huskies are the Lobos’ second opponent that weekend in a game that will take place on Sunday, September 1. The Lobos’ first opponent in the invitational will be against the University of Portland on Thursday, August 29.

The following week, the Lobos will head to the state of Oregon and take on Oregon State University on Thursday, September 5 and Portland State University on Sunday, September 8.

On Sunday, September 15, the Lobos will be back at home and taking on Northern Arizona University. Five days later, the Lobos have their last scheduled non-conference game against in-state rival New Mexico State University. This year’s edition of the Rio Grande Rivalry will take place in Las Cruces as the Lobos will make the trip south on I-25 for the September 20 clash.

Following the game with the Aggies, the Lobos will transition into the MW portion of their schedule.

The first two of those games will see the Lobos on the road as they will be at Colorado State on September 27 and then at Wyoming on September 29. The following week, the Lobos will be at home and take on Nevada on October 4 and UNLV on October 6.

The next four games of the MW slate take the Lobos away from home as they will have weekends at Utah State (October 11) and Boise State (October 13) as well as at Colorado College (October 18) and Air Force (October 20).

Coming off that long road stretch, the Lobos will have the benefit of closing out their regular season at home as their last three games will all be played in the Duke City. The first of those will be an October 25 game vs. MW Tournament Champion, San Jose State. Two days later, the Lobos will take on Fresno State on October 27. The regular season finale is scheduled for November 1 against San Diego State.

This year, the Mountain West Tournament is scheduled to take place in Boise, Idaho with Boise State being the host. The tournament is slated to go from November 5-9.
