Lobos In Third Through Two Rounds of MW Tourney
TUCSON, Ariz. — The University of New Mexico men’s golf team is sitting in third place after two rounds of the 2019 Mountain West Championship. On Saturday, sophomore Galven Green jumped up 11 spots on the individual leaderboard to vault into the second-place spot and sit just one stroke behind senior Sean Carlon who remains first overall.

Green took four strokes off of his first-round score as he shot a six-under, 66 in round two to bring his combined total to an eight-under, 136. The sophomore also carded an additional seven birdies in the round to give him 12 overall to tie him for the most in the competition. Green is averaging 4.25 (-6) on par-5s to put him in a tie for third in the category.
Carlon remained consistent in round two as he registered a four-under, 68 to bring his tournament-leading score to a nine-under, 135. The senior leads New Mexico in par-5 scoring with an average of 4.13 (-7), and has registered one eagle, 10 birdies and 23 pars over his two rounds of work.
Freshman Roy Choi follows for UNM as he shot a 71 (-1) in round two as he is tied for 22nd with a score of 142 (-2). The freshman has registered a total of 25 pars and seven birdies in his two rounds. Also sitting with seven birdies and trailing by just two strokes is freshman Sam Choi who shot a 73 (+1) on the day to put him in a tie for 30th with a score of 144 (E). Sam Choi leads New Mexico in par-3 scoring as he is tied for second in the category with an average of 2.88 (-1).
Freshman Ignacio Arcaya remains the par-leader in the competition as he added 12 more in round two to bring his combined total to 29. Arcaya is sitting in a tie for 46th on the leaderboard with a two-round total of four-over, 148.
Four Lobos including Carlon, Green, Roy Choi and Sam Choi finished round two with par-4 averages of 3.95 (-1) to tie them for third in the category. Meanwhile, Carlon and Green are both tied for second in in par-3 scoring with averages of 2.88 (-1).
As a team, UNM took one stroke off of its first-round total as it shot a 278 (-10) in round two to bring its combined score to a 19-under, 557. The Lobos lead the competition in both pars (121) and in par-3 scoring with a 3.00 (E) average.
It is Colorado State who finished round two in first place as they improved its first-round score by four strokes to bring its total to a 22-under, 554. UNLV sits just two strokes behind at 556 (-20) as the Rebels are just one stroke ahead of the Lobos.
