ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— The University of New Mexico women’s track and field team is ranked ninth in the latest USTFCCCA rankings released on Monday, marking the highest ranking in program history for the Lobos.

Last week’s No. 12 ranking tied the program high that was achieved in week seven in 2018 and in week 12 of 2016, but this ranking signifies the first time the Lobos have cracked the top-10, either on the men’s or the women’s side.

UNM earned 163.51, 2.36 points more than No. 10 Oregon. The Lobos moved up three spots from last week’s rankings.

Aiding in the 24.83 point improvement in the standings was Ednah Kurgat’s performance in the 1500-meter over the weekend at the Bryan Clay Invitational and Adva Cohen’s second-place result in the 5000-meter in which she finished behind Weini Kelati.

Kelati and Cohen currently have the top-two times in the 5000-meter among all NCAA runners according to the combined outdoor qualifying list on the USTFCCCA website.

In addition, the Lobos are ranked first in the USTFCCCA #EventSquad rankings in the 5000-meters, moving up 30 spots in the last week to move ahead of Arkansas.

The Lobos resume competition this weekend at the Brutus Hamilton Invite, hosted by Cal Berkeley, set to start on Friday.
