Sydney Broderick broke up a no-hit bid with a single in the third inning as The University of New Mexico softball team fell in five innings on Tuesday evening at Lobo Softball Field.

NMSU starting pitcher Samaria Diaz kept the Lobos off of the base paths for much of the night as Broderick and Monica Salas were the only hitters to reach base, with Salas reaching via a walk in the fifth. Aleyah Wilbon had two solid at-bats on the night in which both ended with hard lineouts to the Aggie third baseman in the first and fourth.

With their hit and walk, Broderick and Salas both kept their on-base streak alive to four games.

The Lobos left both runners on base compared to three for the Aggies, with the Aggies having runners reach base in all but the fifth in which the Lobos retired the side.

Bailey Klitzke started in the circle for the Lobos and gave up three runs in the top of the first and two in the second before being replaced by Kiana Spencer to start the third. Klitzke threw 54 total pitches on 12 batters faced with 32 strikes, and finished with a final line of 2.0 innings, three hits, five runs (three earned), two walks and three strikeouts.

Spencer pitched the remaining 3.0 innings, allowing five hits, five runs, two walks and one strikeout on 61 total pitches and 16 batters faced. Of the 61 pitches, 35 went for strikes.

UNM returns to Mountain West competition with a series at Fresno State, starting on Friday at 7 p.m. MT.
