Hayden Schilling Named MW Player of the Week
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Hayden Schilling, who led UN to a 3-1 week including a 5-4 win over Arizona in Tucson and a series win over San Jose State, was named the Mountain West Player of the Week by league officials on Monday.
Over the four-game week, Schilling had two hits in each game, going 8-for-17 on the week, a .471 average. He scored five runs, had two doubles, a triple and six runs batted in, including a career-high five on Friday in a 14-2 win.
Against Arizona, Schilling doubled and scored the go-ahead run in the sixth inning, and then in the ninth on a two-strike pitch with UNM down 4-3 in the top of the ninth, he singled to load the bases and extend the game, where UNM got the go-ahead hit in the next at bat.
Against San Jose State, Schilling reached base 11 times in 17 plate appearances, stealing three bases and playing flawless defense at shortstop. His OPS for the week was a massive 1.297.
For the season, Schilling is batting .354 with five doubles, two triples and 13 runs batted in. His slash line is .354/.448/.542, and he also has a save while pitching.
