ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — After executing the fifth-largest comeback in program history, The University of New Mexico men’s basketball team is set to take on #2 Utah State in the 2019 Air Force Reserve Mountain West Championship Quarterfinals on Thursday night in Las Vegas at 6 p.m. PT / 7 p.m. MT.

MOUNTAIN WEST TOURNAMENT CENTRAL

The Lobos fell in both contests to Utah State this season including a narrow 68-66 loss at home inside Dreamstyle Arena – The Pit. UNM was up by one with 31 seconds left with possession when a backcourt violation was called, turning the ball over to Utah State, which ran out the clock and hit a three with 1.8 seconds left to win by two. The Mountain West later issued a statement confirming that the backcourt call was incorrect.

Following the home loss, UNM hit the road to take on Utah State in Logan and fell by a final score of 71-55.

On Wednesday night, senior Anthony Mathis broke a pair of UNM records including most 3-pointers in a single season (103) and most 3-pointers attempted in a season (245). His 103 triples in a season also ranks fifth in Mountain West history for most in a single season.

Redshirt-sophomore Vance Jackson had a standout night on Wednesday scoring 13 straight points in UNM’s 15-0 comeback run to lead the Lobos to the win.

SERIES HISTORY
Utah State leads the series 25-11 overall, however UNM is 1-0 in neutral competition as the Lobos took out the Aggies in the Semifinals of the Mountain West tournament last year.
