Sean Carlon Named Mountain West Golfer of the Week

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Senor Sean Carlon of The University of New Mexico men’s golf team has been named Mountain West Men’s Golfer of the Week for his exceptional performance at the Arizona Intercollegiate on January 28-29, 2019. This is Carlon’s first career MW Golfer of the Month/Week honor.

Carlon led the Lobos to a seventh-place finish at the Arizona Intercollegiate which featured 16 teams, including seven ranked in the GolfStat Top 50. UNM finished ahead of four teams ranked in the top 100 including No. 24 BYU.

Carlon’s outstanding performance included, shooting a seven under, 206 and finishing in 12th place out of 80 competitors. He shot a two under, 69 in his first two rounds of action before posting his lowest score of the tournament in round three with a three under, 68. Carlon carded 39 pars throughout the tournament, just three away from the tournament leader, while averaging 68.7 strokes per round for the event.

Carlon, who leads his team in stroke average, also saw an average of 3.0 in par-3 scoring and -4 in par-4 scoring in his three rounds of work. The senior’s par-4 scoring average of -4 ranked eighth overall among all 80 of the tournament competitors. 

Carlon and the rest of the Lobo men’s golf team will be back in action on Thursday, February 21, 2019 as they head to Manoa, Hawaii to compete in the three-day John A. Burns Intercollegiate.
