ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico men’s basketball team will look for its second straight win as it hosts Fresno State for the squads’ second meeting of the season on Saturday at 5 p.m. in Dreamstyle Arena – The Pit. 

The Lobos (11-13, 5-7 MW) enter Saturday’s tough matchup against the Bulldogs (18-6, 9-3 MW) coming off of a 32-point victory over San José State in front of over 10,000 fans in The Pit on Wednesday. UNM is 2-1 over its last three games and over those contests, the Lobos have averaged 79.0 points per game and shot 44.9 percent from the floor.

Fresno State has won four of its last five games, six of its last eight, en route to its 9-3 record in conference play to rank tied for second in the league standings with Utah State. The Bulldogs enter Saturday’s match coming off of a narrow 65-63 victory over Bois State at home on Wednesday.

Redshirt-sophomore Keith McGee had his best offensive game of the season on Wednesday night, leading the Lobos with 20 points. He has scored 10 or more points in three of the last four games and has led UNM in scoring in two of the last three games. He currently averages 10.4 points per game in conference play.

The Lobos go into Saturday’s contest with five players averaging scoring in double figures in Mountain West play including senior Anthony Mathis (15.3), redshirt-sophomore Vance Jackson (13.0), McGee (10.4), sophomore Makuach Maluach (10.3) and redshirt-junior Carlton Bragg (10.3).

SERIES HISTORY
UNM leads the all-time series over the Bulldogs 16-13 including a 10-1 advantage in Albuquerque and in The Pit. This includes last season’s senior night, overtime victory in which UNM clinched third place in the MW standings.

Last time the two teams met on Feb. 2, Fresno State claimed an 82-70 victory in Fresno.

THE COACHES
Head coach Paul Weir is 30-28 in his second season with the Lobos, 58-34 in his third season as a head coach. Fresno State head coach Justin Hutson is 18-6 in his first season at the helm of the Bulldogs and in his career.
