Men's Golf Signs Two More to NLI

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— Head Coach Glen Millican and assistant coach Gustavo Morantes of The University of New Mexico men’s golf team are excited to announce the addition of Bastien Amat and Alexandre Bauduin, two competitors who signed National Letters of Intent (NLIs) to compete for the Lobos in the upcoming 2020-21 season. Both players will come to New Mexico from overseas with Amat coming out of Condette, France and Bauduin joining the squad from Bassussarry, France.

Amat will join the Lobos after graduating from Nazareth High School in 2020. In his golf career, Amat has become a three-time champion at the French Golf Federation Tour and has earned first-place finishes at the Vice European Championship (under-14 division) and the State Championship (under-16 division). Competing in the under-16 age group, Amat reached an outstanding fifth-place ranking and he holds a low-round score of 66 (-6) in his career.

Amat on why he chose UNM: “The schedule of events really appeals to me and I think it will help me to improve my game. I really enjoy the excellent facilities which are close to the campus and the weather that Albuquerque has to offer. I also really like how athletes are helped both in their sport and academic goals. The team has a good ambience among all the guys and I’m looking forward to make good memories with them!”

Bauduin is set to graduate in 2020 from Largenté High School where his golf team won the French National Championship in 2015, ’16, ’17 and ’18. This year, Bauduin took home the individual title at the junior Honda Classic and also won the Grand Prix de Langon to earn his spot in the World Amateur Golf Rankings. In 2018, he finished 16th overall at the French National after finishing third at the same competition in the under-16 division two years before (2016).

Bauduin has also competed in club golf, being a member of the Biarritz club. His club team earned French National Championship titles in the under-16 age group from 2016-18 and his 2019 team made its way to the finals among the strong field.

Bauduin on why he chose UNM: “I know people who have attended UNM such as Nelson Da Silva Ramos or Augustin Hole who had the same golf coach as me, Michael Magher. Michael told me about the impressive facilities for training and the academics provided by UNM. I am also really looking forward to the New Mexico climate.”

Millican on Amat and Bauduin: “I am very happy to add Bastien and Alex to our 2020 class. These two, along with Matthew, will really help shape us into strong group. All three of these players are very experienced in all conditions and will provide immediate impacts to our program.”

Amat and Bauduin will join Matthew Monroe Watkins, another Lobo NLI signee, on the UNM squad beginning in the 2020-21 season. (View Watkins release HERE.)

The 2019-20 squad will pick back up on Jan. 27-28 to begin their spring slate at the Arizona Intercollegiate hosted by Arizona in Tucson, Ariz.
