Football Game With Air Force Moved to November 23

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The Mountain West league office has announced, after consulting with University of New Mexico director of athletics Eddie Nuñez and officials from the U.S. Air Force Academy, that Saturday’s football game with Air Force, scheduled for noon, will be postponed.  The game will now be played on November 23 at Dreamstyle Stadium, which was an originally off week for both teams.  The game will be played at noon.

Revised broadcast information and details on tickets and parking will be announced shortly.  The Lobo basketball game on Saturday, November 9 against Cal State Northridge will be played as scheduled.

The postponement is due to the passing of Lobo defensive tackle Nahje Flowers on Tuesday morning.  The junior was 21 years old.
 
“In light of the circumstances and following a thorough review of all factors, which included multiple conversations with both institutions, the Conference office has determined this is the appropriate course of action,” Mountain West Commissioner Craig Thompson said. “Our focus is on the family, friends and teammates who have been affected during this difficult time.”
 
New Mexico’s next game will now be on November 16 at Boise State at 8:15 p.m. on ESPN2.  Air Force is at Colorado State at 5 p.m. on ESPN2 on that same day. 
 
For UNM, this is the first postponement of a football game since 2001, when UNM’s September 15 home football game with New Mexico State was moved to November 24 due to the 9/11 terrorist attacks in New York and Washington, D.C.
