ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico men’s basketball team is set to tip off the 2019-20 season with a regular-season matchup against Eastern NM inside Dreamstyle Arena – The Pit on Wednesday, Nov. 6, at 7 p.m. The Lobos will debut their new roster that includes highly-anticipated transfer JaQuan Lyle, who has spent the last two seasons on the Lobo bench, along with three returning starters.

Starters returning for the Lobos include redshirt-junior Vance Jackson, who racked up 13.1 points per game last season, along with junior Makuach Maluach (9.9 ppg) and redshirt-senior Carlton Bragg Jr. (10.5). Bragg also contributed 8.8 rebounds per game while Jackson added 7.0.

In addition to the debut of this season’s Lobo roster, UNM will also welcome back a quartet of Lobo Legends in honor of this season’s Roman Legends Classic presented by Old Trapper. The first legend will be former Lobo great Kenny Thomas, who will be recognized Wednesday. The other three, to be recognized throughout the beginning of the season, will be:

Danny Granger
Gary Colson
and
Michael Cooper.

UNM (0-0) takes on the Greyhounds (0-0) for the first time in a regular-season contest since Nov. 29, 2000. That season, the Lobos earned a 90-50 victory under then-coach Fran Fraschilla in Albuquerque. The last time the two squads faced off, however, was on Nov. 4, 2016 when UNM earned an 88-66 exhibition win inside The Pit.

SERIES HISTORY
The Lobos lead the series over the Greyhounds 15-1 in regular-season competition with 10 of those wins coming in Albuquerque, five inside Dreamstyle Arena – The Pit. The only UNM loss to ENMU came on Dec. 2, 1991 when the Greyhounds came away from one of the most formidable venues in college basketball victorious by five points (81-76).

THE COACHES
Head coach Paul Weir enters the 2019-20 season 33-33 in his third year at the helm of the Lobos, 61-39 in his fourth season as a head coach. ENMU head coach Tres Segler is 37-46 in his fourth season with the Greyhounds, and in his career.
