Women's Golf Signs Myah McDonald to NLI

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Head coach Jill Trujillo and associate head coach Britney Choy of The University of New Mexico women’s golf team are pleased to introduce Myah McDonald, from Kaneohe, Hawaii, who has signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) to compete for the Lobos in the upcoming 2020-21 season.

McDonald is set to graduate from the Mid-Pacific Institute in Spring 2020 after recording a commendable high school and club golf career. McDonald was named the 2019 Jennie K Invitational Champion and the 2018 Ka’anapali Match Play Champion and, most recently, she won the 2019 HSJGA Tournament of Champions.

In addition, McDonald was named 2018-19 ILH All-Star MVP, 2019 Team MVP and earned the 2019 ILH Champion title where she claimed the victory by nine shots, shooting a three under, 69, in the final round, which she finished bogey-free. In 2017, she was the only freshman to place in the competition (fourth) and was named All-Star Second Team at Mid Pacific in her freshman and sophomore seasons. 

With her club team, McDonald’s accomplishments include competing in the 2018 and 2019 Mary Cave Cup where she was the runner up in 2019. She was also named the 2019 Mary Cave Derby Champion. In addition, she was a member of the 2018 Asia Pacific Junior Championship team.

The talented athlete is also a hard worker in the classroom having registered a spot on the President’s List throughout her high school career. McDonald is also a member of the Holomua Honor Society and the National Honor Society and was named the 2019 Valerie Schmidt Award Recipient.

Coach Trujillo on McDonald: “We are getting one of Hawaii’s best. Myah is a fierce competitor and she keeps improving. Her depth as a player will certainly add to our lineup and we are proud to call her a Lobo!”

McDonald on why she chose UNM: “I chose UNM for the supportive coaches and the warm welcoming environment. It also has very high-end facilities that will allow an athlete to fulfill their potential. UNM will ultimately allow me to thrive as an athlete and as a student.”
