Lyle Named Mountain West Player of the Week

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Redshirt-senior JaQuan Lyle of The University of New Mexico men’s basketball team was named Mountain West Player of the Week on Monday after an outstanding performance in just his second week in the Cherry & Silver. So far through four games, Lyle leads the Lobos averaging 19.0 points per game.

While he has been a consistent leader for the Lobos in his debut, this week alone Lyle racked up 24.5 points per game to go along with 5.0 rebounds per contest. He scored a career-high 31 points in UNM’s game against Green Bay on Wednesday, going 9-for-16 from the floor, 5-for-9 from 3-point range and a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line. 

He followed up his performance with 18 points against McNeese on Saturday that included a trio of threes and 7-for-8 shooting from the free throw line. The seven shots included the final four of the game in the final minute to seal the Lobo win.

On the week, he averaged 50 percent (13-26) shooting from the field and 57.1 percent (8-14) from behind the arc while notching 93.8 percent from the stripe (15-16).

Lyle is tied for first in the MW in assists with 6.3 per game and is second in the conference in 3-point field goal percentage (.524). He ranks third in the league overall in scoring (19.0) and field goal percentage (.571) while also ranking 19th in the nation in total assists with 25.

Lyle and the rest of the Lobos return to action on Tuesday when they take on UTEP on the road in El Paso at 7 p.m.
