Lobo Baseball announces 2020 schedule

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The University of New Mexico head baseball coach Ray Birmingham has officially announced his team’s 2020 schedule. As in year’s past as the skipper of the Lobos, a Birmingham schedule will once again mean the Lobos will take on some of the nation’s best, both at home and on the road.
 2020 UNM BASEBALL SCHEDULE

Collectively, UNM’s opponents won 561 games a year ago with 11 winning 30 or more games. Three future foes in Fresno State, Oregon State and Texas Tech advanced to a NCAA Regional last season. Texas Tech, who won 46 games, made it the farthest in 2019 as they advanced to the College World Series and were a game away from the championship series.

Among that trio of NCAA Regional teams from a year ago, the Lobos will play Oregon State once to open the season on February 14 in Surprise, Ariz. The Lobos will also play three times against Fresno State as the Bulldogs will come to Santa Ana Star Field for a three-game series from April 9-11, and four times against Texas Tech with a four-game home-and-home series scheduled for March 17-18 in Albuquerque and April 13-14 in Lubbock.

In addition to playing Oregon State to open the season, the Lobos will also take on former conference-rival BYU and Gonzaga in Surprise. After opening up the season once more in Surprise, the Lobos will play a seven-game homestand between Northern Colorado and BYU. Northern Colorado will be a three-game series from February 21-23 while BYU will be a four-game set with single games on February 27 and 29 and a doubleheader in-between on February 28.

The Lobos will also host weekend series with Hofstra (March 6-8), Alabama A&M (March 27-29), Nevada (April 17-19), Boise State (May 1-3) and San José State (May 14-16). The series with Boise State will be the first-ever games between the Lobos and the Broncos as 2020 is the inaugural season for the program.

Outside of their aforementioned two-game series at home with Texas Tech, the Lobos are only scheduled to play two more home mid-week games with both coming against in-state rival, New Mexico State (April 28 & May 12). The Aggies went 38-17 last year and claimed both meetings against the Lobos in 2019.

On the road, the Lobos will play weekend series at Texas (March 13-15), at UC Riverside (March 21-23), at San Diego State (April 3-5), at Air Force (April 24-26) and at UNLV (May 8-10). In mid-week road action, the Lobos will take on Grand Canyon (March 3-4), Incarnate Word (March 10-11), Arizona (April 21) and New Mexico State (May 5).
