Lobos Conclude Day One at Betsy Rawls Invite

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico women’s golf team finished day one of the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational at the University of Texas on Saturday. The top finisher for the Lobos was freshman Napat “Jenny” Lertsadwattana who tied for 32nd in a field of 77 competitors.

Lertsadwattana led the Lobos in both rounds finishing four-over par (76) in round one before completing round two with a three-stoke improvement (73, +1). She finished the day with a two-round total of 149 (+5) for her 32nd place in the field.

Junior Serena Chon finished second for the squad with a 78 (+6) in round one and chopped four strokes off of her second round for a two-over, 74. Chon completed the first day of competition with a two-round total of 152 (+8) to finish tied for 46th.

Finishing third for the Lobos was junior Caroline Jansson who finished tied for 59th overall with a 78 (+6) and a 77 (+5) in rounds one and two, respectively. She completed the day with a final score of 155. 

Sophomore Kamie Hamada and freshman Lauren Lehigh rounded out the competition for the Lobos in day one. Hamada finished rounds one and two with a 77 (+5) and a 79 (+7), respectively. Lehigh carded an 82 in round one before chopping six strokes off of her game in round two for a score of 74 (+4). The freshman finished the day with a final score of 158.

As a team, the Lobos finished 14th with a two-round score of 609 (+33). Leading after two rounds of competition is Kent State with a 564 (-12) followed by Oklahoma State in second with a 567 (-9) while Texas and Miami tied for third with a 572 (-4). UNM finished just five strokes behind fellow Mountain West competitor UNLV which finished 12th with a score of 604 (+28).

The Lobos are back in action on Sunday, Oct. 13 with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. CT (7:30 a.m. MT) for the final round of the Betsy Longhorn Invitational.
