Lobos Continue Fall Campaign at Texas Saturday

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico women’s golf team heads to Austin, Texas to continue its 2019 fall campaign at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational hosted by the University of Texas on Saturday, Oct. 12 through Sunday, Oct. 13. The Invitational is being held at the University of Texas Golf Club on the par-72, 6,491-yard course. Host Texas enters the tournament ranked second in the nation among three nationally-ranked squads competing.

The Lobos will be competing in a field of 15 schools including Baylor, Colorado, Denver, No. 5 Kent State, Maryland, Miami, North Texas, No. 23 Oklahoma State, SMU, TCU, No. 2 Texas, Texas State, UNLV and Yale.

Of the tough field, the Lobos have competed against Kent State and fellow Mountain West competitor, UNLV, at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational before taking on Colorado at the WSU Cougar Cup. Kent State took first at the Branch and is also undefeated so far this season. UNM claimed ninth while UNLV finished 17 strokes behind in 12th. At the WSU Cougar Cup, the Lobos finished just six strokes behind Colorado, which finished sixth (+6). 

Last season at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational UNM finished tied for 12th and shot a team-low score of 311 (+23) in the third round while recording 17 birdies and 148 pars over the duration of the invitational.

The Lobos are coming off an 11th-place finish at the Cougar Cup on Sept 16-17. Junior Caroline Jansson tied for 20th on the overall leaderboard with a final score of 216. For the 2019-20 season, Jansson has is averaging 72.17 strokes per round.

Fans looking to follow the action live can do so via Live Stats. The teams will tee off at 8:30 a.m. CT (7:30 a.m. MT) for a pair of rounds on Saturday followed by the third and final round on Sunday.
