UNM Women XC Remains Second in USTFCCCA Ranking, Tied with Arkansas
ALBUQUERUQUE, N.M.— The University of New Mexico women’s cross country team maintained its spot at the No. 2 ranking in the USTFCCCA NCAA Division I Women’s Cross Country National Coaches’ Poll released on Tuesday morning, the fourth poll that the Lobos have been second. Dating back to last year, the Lobos have held either the top-two spots for the last seven consecutive weeks.
However, in a slight change, Arkansas moved up one spot in to a tie with UNM, each receiving 312 points. One variation is that the Lobos received two first-place votes whereas the Razorbacks only received one.
Colorado still claims the top spot in the rankings with seven first-place votes and received just one more point than Arkansas and New Mexico. BYU move two spots up into fourth with 295 points and one first-place vote, replacing Washington for the No. 4 ranking. Stanford held the fifth ranking for the second week and Washington fell to sixth. Rounding out the top-10 were Michigan, NC State, Wisconsin and Michigan State, respectively.
Other than UNM, the Mountain West has two other teams in the latest rankings in No. 11 Boise State (219 points) and No. 20 Air Force (110 points), with the Broncos moving up two spots and the Falcons moving in to the rankings after receiving votes in the last poll.
After having been off since Aug. 31, the Lobos resume competition this Friday, Oct. 4 at the 64th Annual Joe Piane- Notre Dame Invitational, where the Lobos will race against nine ranked teams, of which four are ranked in the top-10.
