ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Fresh off of a victory at the 2019 William H. Tucker Intercollegiate, The University of New Mexico men’s golf team is gearing up to continue its fall season as it returns to the second annual Maridoe Intercollegiate hosted by North Texas Sunday, Oct. 6 – Tuesday, Oct. 8 in Carrollton, Texas. The event will take place at the 7,300-yard, par-72 course at the Maridoe Golf Club.

The Lobos claimed the title at the Tucker, UNM’s annual home event, on Sept. 27-28 at the UNM Championship Course after a single-hole playoff between the Lobos and BYU’s Cougars. The squads tied for first in the regular competition (854, -10), and the Lobos ultimately claimed the overall victory after outshooting the Cougars -4 to -3 on hole 18.
Junior Galven Green tied for second at the Tucker with a score of 206 (-7), nine strokes behind BYU’s Peter Kuest who set a tournament record with his score of 16 under, 200.
The field for the Maridoe Intercollegiate will be made up of 12 teams including New Mexico, Arkansas State, Little Rock, Louisiana, Nebraska, host North Texas, San Francisco, SMU, Texas A&M, UTEP, UTSA and Washington.
Washington enters the competition having claimed two first-place finishes to begin the season, one at the Husky Invitational on Sept. 16-17, a competition in which the Lobos opened their season, and another at the Old Town Intercollegiate on Sept. 23-24. SMU has also posted a strong start as it earned a second-place finish at the Trinity Forest Invitational on Sept. 22-24 to open the season.
SMU took home the team title a season ago at the Maridoe Intercollegiate with a score of 21 over, 861 when the course was a par 70. The Lobos finished the 2018 competition fifth out of the field of 15, shooting a team score of 889 (+49). Sophomore Sam Choi led the squad as the then-freshman tied for 18th with a score of 13 over, 223.
Round one of the Maridoe Intercollegiate will tee off on Sunday at 7:30 a.m. MT with a tee-time start on the first and 10th tee. Round two will take place on Monday and will be followed by round three on Tuesday.
