ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico men’s basketball team looks to continue the momentum from Saturday’s 30-point win over Wyoming as it travels to Las Vegas, Nev. to take on UNLV for the second time this season – this time in the Thomas & Mack Center.

Last time the Lobos played in the Thomas & Mack they went 2-1 in the 2018 Mountain West Championships and advanced all the way to the title game.

UNM enters Tuesday night’s game 3-3 in Mountain West play (9-9 overall) while the Runnin’ Rebels are 4-1 in the league (10-7 on the season). The Lobos are looking to snap UNLV’s four-win home streak.

The Lobos lost three straight before claiming the victory over Wyoming Saturday while UNLV kicked off MW play 3-0 before falling to Air Force 106-88 in Colorado on Jan. 16.

The Lobos continue to be led by senior Anthony Mathis who averages 15.9 points per game and is currently ranked 10th in the nation in 3-point field goals per game (3.72) and 12th in total 3-point field goals made (67).

Redshirt-sophomore Vance Jackson is also performing well as he has registered two double-doubles in his last three games. The transfer leads the Lobos with the most double-doubles on the season (4) and the most 10+ rebounding games (4).

UNLV is led by senior Kris Clyburn who racked up 25 points against the Lobos last time the teams met in Albuquerque on Jan. 8.

SERIES HISTORY
UNLV leads the series with the Lobos 34-25 including a 19-11 advantage in Las Vegas. Last time the two teams met was on Jan. 8 in Albuquerque when the Runnin’ Rebels broke the Lobos’ two-win streak to start MW play.

The last meeting between the two teams came just three days after the Lobos handed nationally-ranked Nevada its first and only loss of the season.

Last time the Lobos took on UNLV in the Thomas & Mack Center was on Jan. 17, 2018 when UNM pulled off an exciting 85-81 victory to spark a three-win streak for the Lobos.

THE COACHES
Head coach Paul Weir is 28-24 in his second season with the Lobos, 56-30 in his third season as a head coach. UNLV head coach Marvin Menzies is 41-41 in his third season at the helm of the Runnin’ Rebels and 239-152 in his career.

Tuesday night marks the second time this season Coach Weir will face his former mentor. Weir served as Menzies’ associate head coach and assistant coach for nearly a decade at New Mexico State. Weir is 2-1 over Menzies over his last two seasons as the head coach at UNM.
