ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico men’s basketball team returns home on Saturday, Jan. 19, at 4 p.m. to take on the Wyoming Cowboys on ESPN3. 

The Lobos (8-9, 2-3 MW) are coming off of a three-game skid to a trio of conference opponents, including San Diego State on Tuesday on the road. Wyoming (4-13, 0-4 MW) is riding a four-game loss streak and has not played since Saturday, Jan. 12, allowing the Cowboys a week to prepare to face the Lobos.

UNM continues to be led by senior Anthony Mathis who averages 16.2 points and 3.8 threes per game. He is currently ranked seventh in the nation in 3-point field goals per game (3.82) and 12th in total 3-point field goals made (65).

The Cowboys are led by senior Justin James who posts 21.1 points per game to go along with a team-high 9.3 rebounds per contest.

SERIES HISTORY
UNM leads the series with Wyoming 71-67 including a 43-34 record in Albuquerque (37-15 in The Pit). Last season, the Lobos and the Cowboys met three times including in the Mountain West Quarterfinals on March 8. UNM earned an 85-75 victory to advance to the semifinals.

The Lobos went 3-0 over the Cowboys last season and broke records on the road with a 119-114 victory in Laramie. UNM broke the all-time program record for most points scored in a conference game (119) and most points scored by both teams in a conference game (233). The Lobos also broke the record for most points allowed by Wyoming in their home arena in Cowboy history.

THE COACHES
Head coach Paul Weir is 27-24 in his second season with the Lobos, 55-30 in his third season as a head coach. Wyoming head coach Allen Edwards is 47-41 in his third season at the helm of the Cowboys and in his career.
