COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Less than 24 hours removed from posting a sensational clean sheet against No. 22-ranked Texas Tech, senior goalkeeper Emily Johnson has been named as the first Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week for the 2019 season as it was announced by the league office on Monday.

A native of Western Springs, Ill., Johnson withstood an unrelenting offensive attack by the Red Raiders for the entirety of the 90-minute match. In the first half, Johnson faced 10 shots and made three saves. In the second half, with the Lobos holding a 1-0 lead, Johnson was forced to face 12 shots and made four more saves.
 
The individual shutout posted by Johnson is her eighth as the Lobo goalkeeper and the weekly conference plaudit is the second in her career as well.
 
Johnson and the rest of the UNM women’s soccer team is preparing to embark on a four-game road trip with stops at Washington, Oregon State and Portland State.
