Holé and Carlon Honored as All-American Scholars

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Seniors Sean Carlon and Augusin Holé of The University of New Mexico men’s golf team have been named by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) as Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-American Scholars. The honor marks the second-straight year that both Lobos have earned their spot on the prestigious list.

While a record 540 student-athletes were named to the list, the duo are part of just 266 Division I athletes honored.

In order to be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar honor, individuals must be a junior or senior academically and have participated in 50 percent of the team’s competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 (Division I), and have maintained a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2.

Additionally, recipients must be in good standing at his college or university and be of high moral character.

The recognition comes after New Mexico was named Academic National Champion by the GCAA for finishing the 2018-19 season with the top GPA in NCAA Division I. The squad posted a 3.50 GPA in the Fall 2018 semester followed by a 3.66 in the Spring 2019 semester to claim the honor. UNM was also among just 32 schools to earn the President’s Special Recognition award for maintaining a cumulative season GPA of 3.5 or higher.

Carlon had a standout year both in the classroom and on the course as he logged 30 rounds on the season and held a stroke average of 71.77. Holé was also a key competitor for the squad as he recorded an average of 73.87 in his 24 rounds of work.

Carlon topped off his collegiate career with a second-place finish at the 2019 Mountain West Championships (tied for first before playoff) while helping lead the the Lobos to their seventh Mountain West Tournament title. Holé carded a top finish of 26th (tie) on the season at the National Invitational Tournament (N.I.T.) on March 18-19.
