Women's Golf Adds Transfer Serena Chon for 2019-20

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Head coach Jill Trujillo and associate head coach Britney Choy of The University of New Mexico women’s golf team announced the addition of junior Serena Chon on Monday. Chon is a transfer from UC Riverside and is set to join the Lobos for the 2019-20 season.

Chon joins the squad after competing for UC Riverside from 2017-19 during her freshman and sophomore seasons. She competed in eight out of 11 tournaments in the 2018-19 season and recorded a season-best finish of 23rd (tie) at the Fresno State Classic where she shot a 222 (+6) with a combined eight birdies.

In her freshman campaign, Chon posted an average score of 76.66 across her four tournaments and registered a top finish of 19th at the Golfweek Conference Challenge in just her first collegiate tournament.

Chon graduated from Murrieta Valley High School in Murrieta, Calif. in 2017 where she was a three-time letterman in golf and was honored as a Southwestern League MVP in 2014 and 2015. In addition, Chon was also named First-Team All-League in 2014 and 2015.

Chon joins the Lobos after the squad received the 2018-19 Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-Scholar Team GPA Award after posting the highest collective average team GPA in the nation with a 3.903. Chon will join junior Caroline Jansson in representing the junior class on the 2019-20 roster.
