INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The University of New Mexico, winners of the Mountain West Tournament in Tucson, Arizona, have been selected to play in the Louisville Regional, hosted by the University of Louisville. The regionals will take place May 13-15 at the University of Louisville Golf Club, a 7,192-yard par 72 course.
Overall, there are six 54-hole regional tournaments will be conducted May 13-15. Thirteen teams and ten individuals not on those teams will compete at each of three regionals while the other three regionals will have 14 teams and five individuals not on those teams. The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams from each regional will advance to the finals.
“This is great for our program to get back to the NCAA Regionals after missing them last year,” said head coach Glen Millican. “It’s a credit to the hard work on not just our team, but so many others that support our program. We have tremendous facilities at the Championship South Course, and then we have great friends of the program like out hosts tonight at Albuquerque Country Club, which serves as a practice course for us as well. It’s truly a team effort.”
The Louisville Regional is one of the 13-team regionals, and defending national champion Oklahoma State is the top-seed in the region, and host Louisville is the No. 4 seed. The Lobos are the No. 11 seed, just behind Mississippi State, which was one of the last at-large teams in the field. Other teams in the regional are No. 2 Auburn, No. 3 North Florida, No. 5 Baylor, No. 6 Arkansas State, No. 7 Iowa, No. 8 West Virginia, No. 9 Arizona, No. 10 Mississippi State, No. 12 Jacksonville State and No. 13 Southern Illinois.
Along with Louisville, the other five regional sites are the Palouse Ridge Golf Club in Pullman, Washington, hosted by Washington State University; Stanford Golf Course in Stanford, California, hosted by Stanford University; TPC Myrtle Beach in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, hosted by Coastal Carolina University and Myrtle Beach Regional Sports Alliance; University of Georgia Golf Course in Athens, Georgia, hosted by the University of Georgia; and University of Texas Golf Club in Austin, Texas, hosted by the University of Texas.
