INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The University of New Mexico’s conference champion men’s golf team and UNM’s women’s golf team were honored with public recognition by the NCAA for having its 2017-18 Academic Progress Rates in the top 10 percent of the NCAA in its respective sport.  UNM has now seen 29 sports recognized by the NCAA for superior APR scores since the first APR Public Recognition announcement in 2006.

The 2017-18 cohort marks the sixth straight year that UNM has had at least two programs honored with public recognition.  Both men’s golf and women’s golf recorded perfect multiyear APRs of 1000 (counting scores from the 2014-15, 2015-16, 2016-17 and 2017-18 academic years), and give New Mexico 20 public recognitions over the last six seasons.

Full APR scores will be released next Wednesday, May 8, and UNM is expected to have every sport reach the 930 threshold established by the NCAA for the multiyear rate. That would mark the ninth straight year that all UNM programs have achieved the 930 benchmark.

The APR provides a real-time look at a team’s academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team’s academic performance.

The 2017-18 academic year marks the sixth straight year that women’s golf has received public recognition, with men’s golf collecting its fourth straight.  Overall, women’s golf has now been honored seven times, one more than women’s tennis for the most honors at the school.

New Mexico’s pair of selections were tied for fifth in the Mountain West.  Boise State led the Mountain West with five.
