Women’s Golf Heads to Mountain West Championships

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico women’s golf team is set to compete at the Mountain West Women’s Golf Championship this Monday, April 15 – Wednesday, April 17 in Rancho Mirage, Calif. The tournament will take place at the 6270-yard, par-72 Dinah Shore Tournament Course at the Million Hills Country Club.

The Lobos return to the tournament with eight first-place finishes throughout the competition’s 19-year history to lead the conference in MW Championship titles. The squad has also walked away with second place four times and third place once. UNLV returns as three-time defending champion as the Rebels have seven tournament wins under their belt.

The pairings for round one of the competition will be based off the Golfstat national rankings as of April 10. San José State leads in 27th place, followed by San Diego State (43rd), UNLV (76th), Colorado State (90th), New Mexico (92nd), Fresno State (95th), Nevada (105th), Boise State (121st) and Wyoming (167th).

ROUND ONE PAIRINGS

The pairings for the following two rounds will be determined based on the total first-round score for both teams and individuals.

Individually in the Golfstat Mountain West rankings, it is the two Lobo seniors who lead for New Mexico in the conference. Senior Emma Edwards is sitting 28th with an average score of 76.17 and an average of 4.42 vs. par, while senior Darian Zachek trails by just two spots as her average score of 76.37 and 4.59 average vs. par puts her 30th in the conference.

Round one of the Mountain West Women’s Golf Championship will tee off on Monday at 8:00 a.m. MT and will be followed by round two on Tuesday and round three on Wednesday.
