UNM Adds 46 Points on Second Day of CSCAA Championship

DAY 1 RECAP
CLEVELAND, Ohio—
The University of New Mexico swimmers added 46 points on Friday, the second day of the CSCAA National Invitational Championship, bringing the two-day score to 109.50.

The Lobos currently sit 18th out of 44 schools.

Hedda Øritsland once again started off the day strong for UNM, swimming the second-fastest time in the 100-yard butterfly preliminary round to qualify for the final, where she swam 53.76 for a fourth-place finish and 19 team points. Both her preliminary round time of 53.41 and final time of 53.76 were season bests for the freshman by over a second.

UNM picked up eight points in the 100-yard breaststroke with two top-20 finishes in the event. Katie Pollock earned six team points on her 15th-place result, swimming 1:03.61 in the B final, an improvement of 0.10 seconds from her prelim time. Both times were just off of her season best in the event. Asami Terada placed 19th in the event on a time of 1:04.02, and again both her B final time and her preliminary round time of 1:03.64 were improvements on her season-best time this season. Her preliminary time was 2.37 seconds faster than her best time this season that occurred back in October in the first meet of the season at the Pacific Invitational.

In the 200-yard freestyle, Klara Farkas finished 16th overall with a time of 1:50.14 for five team points.

Brooke Zukowski swam a season-best 1:06.70 in the preliminary round of the 100-yard breaststroke, improving her time by 1.05 seconds.

The Lobos competed in two relays on the day, finishing 14th in the 800-yard freestyle relay to add 14 team points. Øritsland, Farkas, Mari Aoki and Pollock swam 7:30.21 to finish 14th as a team, while Aoki, Terada, Farkas and Pollock placed 22nd in the 200-yard medley relay with a 1:44.85 to finish just outside of scoring position.

UNM concludes the championship meet on Saturday with four swimmers in the 100-yard IM, one in the 100-yard freestyle (Øritsland), four in the 200-yard breaststroke and one in the 200-yard butterfly (Farkas) and will close the three-day meet with an entry in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
